The Twitter Tool I’d like to see
This will be kind of my dream request cuz, well why not?
I’ll start with a little background on my Twitter experience. It’s been almost two years since I created @ericpz. However, at first I only saw it as only a part of what Facebook offered. Besides, at that time a large number of people I grew up with and went to school had just started to join social network scene so, I was catching up on what we’ve been doing now that we are all grown up…or something like that.
Anyway, a few months ago I started playing with Twitter some more and first discovered TwitterFox and soon saw the benefit of it. I primarily used it as a complement to Google Reader. However, I soon found that I was following too many Twitter accounts and TwitterFox just was no longer practical.
That’s when I gave TweetDeck a try and a whole new world opened up. I’ve used the phrase a few times and it’s true, Tweeting without TweetDeck is like watching TV without a DVR. You miss so much.
So, that leads me to where I am today. With TweetDeck I’ve figured out a number of ways to set things up, but it’s still not quite right. Oh, and to date I only Tweet on my computer. The idea of all those tweets blowing up on my cell, no thanks.
The first thing I’d like to see is something similar which is web based. I use more than one computer, a few desktops (home, work, school) two laptops (works and mine) and, well ya never know when or where you’ll be jumping online. Some kind of web based interface like TweetDeck would be a great start. I hate marking a bunch of Tweets read on one machine then doing it again somewhere else. This is one of the reasons why I liked Google Reader so much.
Along the same line, when I filter something, yes I need to improve how I have my groups and searches set up but still I get numerous tweets in multiple columns. When I read a tweet in one place it should do the same elsewhere so it doesn’t keep popping up.
TweetDeck gives you 10 columns, however, there are times when some of your searches or groups have been read. How tough would it be to hid empty columns? Only show the columns which contain unread Tweets.
Of course, it would have to be able to handle multiple Twitter accounts too.
Ok, who’s going to be the first to tell me it already exists and I just have to pay for it?
Oh, and one last this. This is probably more a feature which Twitter will have to create but I’d live to see it. A way for me to sent a Tweet to just a specific group. Using hashtags would probably be a great way to do this. I know there’s a site which you can create a Twitter account and go through that to do this process but, it can be made easier.
Anyway, that’s my wish list. Any thoughts?
