The Big Match

I was 10 years old when I got to see Ipswich play on TV for the first time. It was in the FA Cup Final. At that time, I figured the whole world stopped so everyone could watch the match and it was an even bigger deal cuz my team was actually playing this time.

Wind ‘em up and see what happens

I’ve been having a lot of fun–maybe too much–winding up my English friends ever since the World Cup draw in December. To be honest, the best thing about playing England in the first round of the next month is listening to their over-confidence and giving them grief on how little they really know about the sport of soccer in the US.

It’s a dirty job but

I’ve always thought it would be cool to coach a national soccer team. Yeah, it would take a lot of work, and success to find yourself in that position. But to make some good money traveling around to games to see the countries top players. Always have a great seat made available to you….

Calm down US Soccer fans

I don’t know if it’s just soccer fans or Americans in general these days but, well, these knee jerk hysterics depending on the latest result has got to end. Sorry but, yeah losing at the Azteca was a disappointment. But ya know what? We’ve never won there. Not once.

Is TV starting to like Soccer?

Like most other soccer fans in this country, there’s really only one thing on my mind today—the match at the Azteca this afternoon. I decided to watch ESPN last night just to see if there was anything and, as I figured it would be ignored, I could get my mind off the match and probably be put to sleep by endless Baseball and NFL training camp news. (I didn’t expect Rick Pitino to be the main event)

A good sized baby step

I’m sure US Soccer fans are going to be dissecting the Confederations Cup run for a long time.  Well, I hope that’s what happens.  There’s a million talking points to examine.

Is CONCACAF getting tougher?

I’ve been mulling over Saturday nights El Salvador - USA match for a few days now.  I’ve read more than a couple of the knee jerk “the sky is falling” blog posts from US fans about the performance.  However, those comments just haven’t sat will with me.  I don’t think it was all that awful a performance.  No, it wasn’t great but, the sky isn’t falling either.
