I don’t know if it’s just soccer fans or Americans in general these days but, well, these knee jerk hysterics depending on the latest result has got to end. Sorry but, yeah losing at the Azteca was a disappointment. But ya know what? We’ve never won there. Not once.

Like most other soccer fans in this country, there’s really only one thing on my mind today—the match at the Azteca this afternoon. I decided to watch ESPN last night just to see if there was anything and, as I figured it would be ignored, I could get my mind off the match and probably be put to sleep by endless Baseball and NFL training camp news. (I didn’t expect Rick Pitino to be the main event)

Don’t you love a happy ending? Here we were (well, I was) all worked up about potentially not being able to watch the US play their World Cup Qualifier at the Azteca. I’d even called DirecTV to see what it would cost to get one (or both) of the channels just for the day–actually, I still haven’t heard back yet on my last email. Oh well.

Don’t get me wrong, losing yesterday to Mexico in the final of the Gold Cup hurt. We should not ever lose a match that bad to anyone…especially not to our neighbors.

It started quietly enough. Steven Geoff posted on his Washington Post blog that the huge World Cup Qualifier between Mexico and the US would not be on ESPN but on mun2.

Seriously, you’d have thought we had just lost at home to Granada (no offense to the Grenadians) or something, anything, other than stuffing Trinidad and Tobago 3-0. Hey, at least we aren’t Mexico.

I’ve been mulling over Saturday nights El Salvador - USA match for a few days now. I’ve read more than a couple of the knee jerk “the sky is falling” blog posts from US fans about the performance. However, those comments just haven’t sat will with me. I don’t think it was all that awful a performance. No, it wasn’t great but, the sky isn’t falling either.

I remember this place. Seems like the season was just starting when I last posted…oh yeah, it was. Things have been crazy and will probably continue that way for a while. However, I will try and post on here when I can.
Am I the only one outside of Ohio or the NY/NY Metro area that is excited about the MLS Cup Final? The last few years I’ve come around to accepting and actually enjoying the playoffs–must be because LA haven’t been involved. The match Saturday night in SLC was entertaining. …

The US-Mexico game in Columbus next month sold out in 20 minutes yesterday. Well not exactly, but it’s still pretty impressive.
Tickets went on pre-sale a week ago to local groups, Crew season ticket holders and fans who have registered at ussoccer.com. This was done in an effort to get as pro a US crowd as possible. However, I’m sure a decent number of enterprising Mexican fans will have managed to get tickets as well.
But for someone who has followed US Soccer for over 15 years now, this is about as …
