Some thoughts the morning after LA Galaxy clinched their third MLS Cup:
Yes people we get it. Beckham pays a lot of bills. However, there were another 21 players on the pitch last night. The match hadn’t even kicked off and the whole “is this his last game” angle was already worn out. Ian Darke sure didn’t help matters by not going five minutes without bringing it up.

Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while–yeah, I know, I haven’t posted much recently–will know I’m not a big fan of the All-Star Game. But what are you going to do? The league has managed to stumble on a a formula which works. The MLS XI vs some “big club” from another country seems to be selling out stadiums and attracting a large enough TV audience on a Wednesday night to keep ESPN happy.

I’m sorry, I’ve put up with this for years. However, this soccer related elitism our friends from Britain (or who want to be from Britain) want to impose on us “Yanks” has got to stop.

Like most other soccer fans in this country, there’s really only one thing on my mind today—the match at the Azteca this afternoon. I decided to watch ESPN last night just to see if there was anything and, as I figured it would be ignored, I could get my mind off the match and probably be put to sleep by endless Baseball and NFL training camp news. (I didn’t expect Rick Pitino to be the main event)

Enough with the negative stuff I’ve been posting lately. I not sure why but I was reminded the other day about this show I watched as a kid in England called, “It’s a Knockout”…it’s the Euro counterpart (later rounds) “Jeux Sans Frontieres”. And if you thought it had anything to do with Peter Gabriel, well, the TV show was the inspiration behind the song.

Don’t you love a happy ending? Here we were (well, I was) all worked up about potentially not being able to watch the US play their World Cup Qualifier at the Azteca. I’d even called DirecTV to see what it would cost to get one (or both) of the channels just for the day–actually, I still haven’t heard back yet on my last email. Oh well.

It started quietly enough. Steven Geoff posted on his Washington Post blog that the huge World Cup Qualifier between Mexico and the US would not be on ESPN but on mun2.

Growing up and going to matches at Portman Road, it was always exciting to see a TV camera sitting in some basket lift above the Churchmans Stand. That would be the indication that we’d get to see the highlights of the match on Match of the Day that night. Of course, that was long before SkyTV brought their millions to show live matches. Now, hardly a match takes place without a camera…and now with the broadcast choices we have, we get to see a lot of matches from the far …

What a busy time. In case you are the 2 visitors I get to this blog that aren’t my mom, I just moved again. Ok, it was only cross town but with everything that’s taken place the last few weeks, it may as well have been a much longer move. Anyway, between that, school and work (can’t forget to pay the bills) I’ve just not had the time to really post lately. So, I’m gonna share a few thoughts though I’ll probably forget half of what I wanted to say.
