Some thoughts the morning after LA Galaxy clinched their third MLS Cup:

Yes people we get it. Beckham pays a lot of bills. However, there were another 21 players on the pitch last night. The match hadn’t even kicked off and the whole “is this his last game” angle was already worn out. Ian Darke sure didn’t help matters by not going five minutes without bringing it up.

I realize I haven’t posted in a while but to be honest, I probably would have just ranted about something or other so I decided to keep myself limited to 140 characters.
However, do to some serendipitous events, possibly due to some planetary alignment or the SuperMoon, I found myself flipping through all the games last night and felt the urge to write something.

When the season started, there was a lot of talk about how this season would provide the first ‘balanced’ schedule and the closest we’ll get to a true Supporters Shield winner. Champions of the ‘we need to be like Europe’ philosophy jumped all over this opportunity.

You ever hear someone say something, but what they do say the exact opposite?  Yeah, as a parent, I get called on that one all the time.  The actions of David Beckham sure don’t mirror what he keeps trying to convince us is true.

This is one of the worst kept secrets in MLS of late. Actually, the news isn’t that new. However, Wagman does a great job of breaking down possible parts of the negotiation which probably won’t make the press anywhere else. Sounds like negotiation have really been long and drawn out trying to make things acceptable for all. One thing is certain now that I’ve read the piece, it won’t be a straight money transaction like the birth of Chivas.

Seriously. As a player, I was honored to see him in his prime with LA. He was solid at the back and went a long way to helping the team bring some silverware to the Rose Bowl and HDC.
As GM for San Jose, he did what he needed to do in order to bring more attention to the team but even he couldn’t do enough to stop the sale of team and their move to Houston.
So, now he’s in New York and the media there seem to love to quote …
