Who’s in charge anyway?

Yeah, we all saw this one coming. I’m still mulling over the choice of Jurgen Klinsmann as the new head coach of the US mens national team. I’m still not convinced it’s the right direction as coach. However, there may be other things going on within the USSF which may be associated with the change which may prove this move to be a good one in the long-run. We just won’t know for some time.

Pride for Africa, Gold for Spain

Is it just me or did the World Cup seem to last a lot longer when I was a kid? Argentina, Spain, and Mexico those World Cups all seemed to last half the summer. The entire summer seemed to revolve around them. This year it just blew by.

Maybe it is just a game, but there are some who are making a lot of money individually off the sport. In case you haven’t been paying attention, Jack Warner (FIFA VP and CONCACAF Chief) is a crook. There’s plenty of evidence to at least instill some doubt about his actions.
However, he’s been sheltered for a long time.  His buddy, Sepp Blatter, has managed to make the bad stuff go away. There have been few to try and stand up to him…until now.
Why is it that the little …

Will this be the final proof needed?
‘Warner asked me to make a cheque out to his personal account. I said we don’t do that’
Too bad it’s more crooks who are covering up for people like Warner.  I thought FIFA’s goal was for the advancement of the sport, not their bank accounts.

This time FIFA has managed to get itself in a bit of trouble. It turns out their signing Visa as a new sponsor (partner) breached their existing agreement with MasterCard. This is being reported only a couple of days after another black eye they gave themselves.
What I find really bad about this whole thing is their attitude about this.
While the FIFA witnesses at trial boldly characterized their breaches as “white lies,” “commercial lies,” “bluffs,” and, ironically, “the game,” their internal emails discuss the “different …

At this point, I want someone at FIFA headquarters to explain why anyone should take any of the FIFA leadership seriously. In it’s infinate wisdom, FIFA doesn’t even give Jack Warner a slap on the wrist.
What was the crime? He (or rather his son with the help of the famly Travel Company) resold World Cup tickets well above face value breaking FIFA rules on the practice.
However, all Sepp Blatter(ed) could say was…
“The committee expressed its disapproval…drawing attention to the fact that Mr Warner should be more cautious and …

I just stumbled across The NASL Alumni Association web site. Does anyone know anything about them? They’ll be having a reunion in Dallas in September. could be interesting.
I know MLS did a lot to distance itself from the NASL 10 years ago. MLS didn’t want the stigma of the way the league folded or the other problems the NASL had with FIFA and the USSF associated with it. However, after 10 years, I’m hoping MLS does more to embrace the history of the sport in …

What a mess. How silly can a governing body be? (no comments from Democrats out there…yes, I mean you Kyle)
Anyway, how the heck can Barbados allow itself to get booted from FIFA? Ya gotta be silly to let it get that far. Of course, I guess there are some parallels to the 2000 US Presidential Election. Guess it’s a good thing the UN didn’t boot the US out. Or is it?
Either way, this feud between the two candidates can’t be a good thing. …

So another FIFA sanctioned “International Weekend” came and went and MLS fans were forced to watch their team play without all their biggest names again. Why? Every other league of note did not play league matches last weekend.
C’mon now, MLS has made a point since inception to promote star players all the time. Then they go and force us to have to endure a product that does not have the best possible players on the pitch. What are they thinking?
Yes, I have heard they argument that …
