I realize I haven’t posted in a while but to be honest, I probably would have just ranted about something or other so I decided to keep myself limited to 140 characters.
However, do to some serendipitous events, possibly due to some planetary alignment or the SuperMoon, I found myself flipping through all the games last night and felt the urge to write something.
First, besides the late games (Goats cramming those attending into parts of the stadium to make it look fuller than it was, and Smurph fans scared of a …

WooHoo!!! The long anticipated CONCACAF Champions League has finally been announced.
I won’t bore you with the details cuz it’s blogged and published everywhere else.
Honestly, I’m not sure if I’m excited or not about this. Yeah, it’s another opportunity for MLS Clubs to show how competitive they are. Yes, another. Is the SuperLiga still part of the mix? Houston and NE still have the Champions Cup (the old version to play this Spring as well. Another question, which two MLS Clubs get the …

It’s been an interesting week on the MLS Coaching front. Of course, LA now have a Dutch coach….a coach who I idolized as a player. The guy was awesome. My hope is that he can introduce Total Football to the HDC.
I was fortunate enough to group up in the Total Football heyday. While I lived on the other side of the North Sea, Bobby Robson had brought a taste of Total Football to Suffolk in the late 80’s when he signed Arnold Murhen and Franz Thijssen. The think of love …

When Guevara was taken off by Preki on Saturday night, something just didn’t seem right. I had wondered at the time if his move to LA wasn’t working out as planned–much like his time in NY. Now it looks like my suspicions were right.
The guy is a talented player. Hopefully he’ll do better in Toronto. It’s good to see Nagamura heading back to LA…too bad it’s with the goats.
UPDATE: Perhaps it’s not happening. However, LA Soccer News is pretty reliable so I’m guessing it was …

No shocker here, America and Chivas play a preseason friendly in downtown LA and 88k show up. No surprise there. Funny thing, the LA Goats played the Galaxy as the warm up act and get to count the attendance in their season average. That one match probably had more attending than their other 14 home matches combined….well, less the ones where they played the Galaxy.
Well, LA managed to pull off the season sweep… though it took a penalty in the final 10 minutes to do it. I watched the match …

LA play Chivas tonight in the Open Cup. Because the X-Games are in town the pitch at the HDC is covered in dirt…lots of dirt. So, even though both teams play home games in the stadium, the game has been moved next door to the Track & Field Stadium. It’s actually not an awful venue and may create a decent atmosphere. Thing is, the Cup doesn’t get the attention from fans and media it deserves…but at least Nick Green with the Daily Breeze is getting the word out. Hopefully, the …

Maybe Chivas should play more Friday night games. They beat the Rev’s 1-0 at home on Singles Night complete with the ChivaLove Tent which I’m guessing involved the ChivaGirls.
Anyone reading this attend the match and know about this ChivaLove Tent? Sounds like a desperate attempt to sell tickets. The stadium was still only half-full.

Once again, the Open Cup offers us some giant-killing results and some favorites needed Extra Time to get past smaller teams.
Rochester 2 - 1 Virginia Beach
Rochester needed a late winner to get past the rival USL 1 team.
Western Mass 1 - 3 Chicago
Chicago went a goal down early on the road against the USL 2 side before getting three back before the break.
Charlotte 2 - 3 Chivas (AET)
Chivas had to fight to get past the USL 2 side and didn’t come out on top until Extra Time was played.
Atlanta 1 …
