“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way.

WooHoo!!! The long anticipated CONCACAF Champions League has finally been announced.
I won’t bore you with the details cuz it’s blogged and published everywhere else.
Honestly, I’m not sure if I’m excited or not about this. Yeah, it’s another opportunity for MLS Clubs to show how competitive they are. Yes, another. Is the SuperLiga still part of the mix? Houston and NE still have the Champions Cup (the old version to play this Spring as well. Another question, which two MLS Clubs get the …

My blog title is an XTC lyric so why not use one here?
So, we are in the middle of the off-season. There’s plenty going on in MLS and Europe but I thought it would be fun to have a think about what I’d recommend if I were Don Garber about the structure of MLS–hence the “King for a Day” title.
Probably the biggest complaint I hear about MLS is the post season…or at least the format of it. It really doesn’t produce as much incentive as it could to …

Enough already! I’m sorry, but if I read or hear one more person complain about the MLS Playoff format…well, I don’t know what I’m going to do but I’m tired of it already.
This is Year 12, and for twelve years people have complained about the format and that we have playoffs at all. Get over it people.
If the owners wanted the top teams to win through to the finals, they would probably just do away with the first round….actually not a bad idea, but it won’t happen. Besides, everyone …

WooHoo!!! MLS season starts today. It’s been a long winter (sure, it’s still snowing here but it is Spring right?) of having to listen to Ipswich matches over the internet. The way Town have been performing, it’s almost a good thing their season is almost over…mid-table obscurity, I guess it could be worse.
With the start of the season comes all the season preview pieces. Everyone is doing it. This season seems different. The media is all over the place…and it’s almost all positive. …

The other day I asked…
I’ve waited over 11 years so far, how much longer will I need to wait until winning the MLS Cup is more important than making money?
It’s nice to see I’m not the only person asking that question…
Apparently, protecting the integrity of the MLS regular season is beneath the notice of decision makers at AEG and the league office. Unbalancing the league schedule of one of its clubs, the putative “Jewel of MLS“, in fact, appears to be a small price to pay to secure a couple …

Granted, there were a lot of Pumas fans at RFK last night, but hats off to the DC faithful for the turn out last night. Over 21k on a Wednesday night for a non-MLS game? That’s gotta be a record. Entertaining match as well. This is what the Champions Cup should be. I only got to catch pieces of the match, but I managed to catch both goals. I guess the only disappointments last night were 1) the result…DC will have their work cut out in Mexico City and 2) …

We’ve started the second season of two-leg playoffs in MLS and the complaining about lack of home field advantage has returned. The primary argument is that the new format doesn’t give the team with the better regular season record a real advantage. True, that the way it was designed. Yes, it does make the fact that teams have played 30 matches to weed out 2 teams only to play a two-leg playoff with no advantage for the team who’d preformed better. Columbus who hasn’t lost a match in over half …
