Who’s in charge anyway?

Yeah, we all saw this one coming. I’m still mulling over the choice of Jurgen Klinsmann as the new head coach of the US mens national team. I’m still not convinced it’s the right direction as coach. However, there may be other things going on within the USSF which may be associated with the change which may prove this move to be a good one in the long-run. We just won’t know for some time.

Sunil Gulati goes all in

I’ve no other way to explain the decision by US Soccer to make a change in the National Team’s head coach right now. Bob Bradley was obviously blindsided as he was seen scouting earlier this week.

Woulda Coulda Shoulda

Reflecting on yesterday’s USA-Ghana, match I’ve come to the conclusion that perhaps we really shouldn’t be surprised the World Cup is over for the Stars & Stripes. While the team did not do poorly, well, not by 2006 or 1998 standards, they weren’t exactly setting the competition on fire either.

And then there were 30

Bob Bradley’s 4-year cycle as head coach for the US National Soccer team is reaching it’s pinnacle. Today, he named his provisional 30 man squad. So, what do we have?

It’s a dirty job but

I’ve always thought it would be cool to coach a national soccer team. Yeah, it would take a lot of work, and success to find yourself in that position. But to make some good money traveling around to games to see the countries top players. Always have a great seat made available to you….

A good sized baby step

I’m sure US Soccer fans are going to be dissecting the Confederations Cup run for a long time.  Well, I hope that’s what happens.  There’s a million talking points to examine.

Is CONCACAF getting tougher?

I’ve been mulling over Saturday nights El Salvador - USA match for a few days now.  I’ve read more than a couple of the knee jerk “the sky is falling” blog posts from US fans about the performance.  However, those comments just haven’t sat will with me.  I don’t think it was all that awful a performance.  No, it wasn’t great but, the sky isn’t falling either.

In all, a better game than I expected.  Usually these January games are pretty dull.  Thought the US looked pretty solid even though much of the squad was kids.  Guzan, Davis and Clark, I thought, got themselves in a position where Bradley needs to take a longer look at them for the upcoming games.  During the match, I was thinking of all the players in Europe now who weren’t available…there’s quite a few.  We basically have two full squads at this point.  It was good to see Landon get the …

I haven’t had the chance to be online much the last few days so when I saw this report about ESPN’s new media blitz for the upcoming MLS season…well, I had to make the time.
But before I was able to post anything, I found that my buddy, Mr. Fish, had already tracked down the ads online. Check them out…they’re as good as I’d hoped based on the earlier report. The ads are focused on attracting non-soccer fans. Anything to dispel the myths that the sport is just …
