Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while–yeah, I know, I haven’t posted much recently–will know I’m not a big fan of the All-Star Game. But what are you going to do? The league has managed to stumble on a a formula which works. The MLS XI vs some “big club” from another country seems to be selling out stadiums and attracting a large enough TV audience on a Wednesday night to keep ESPN happy.

I’ve been defending MLS and US soccer for….well, a heck of a long time. I’ve defended it against Euros who still seem to think we’ll make the goals bigger, play four quarters and so on. I’ve defended the sport against Americans who insist soccer is slow and boring–while watching a baseball game. However, the insanity of MLS/AEG reached new levels as I watch the Spiced Savior tell Rob Stone he’ll probably not be playing against Chelsea while reading the scroll at the bottom of the screen claim …

If Columbus can beat Fulham…what are the leagues best going to do? I mean, Columbus have one of the worst records in the league…they currently don’t have a coach and yet, in this friendly, they got the win.
Yeah, it’s only a friendly and Fulham probably didn’t have anything close to their strongest line-up. But still, why should this result give me any reason to tune in to ABC on Saturday?

Following the two games Real just played here in the US, Real will host and MLS XI at the Bernabeu on Aug 23.
Too bad this match is a mid-week encounter is right in the middle of the regular season and most players will play a Saturday game before flying to Madrid and return for a game the following weekend.
What’s more important Mr. Garber, these friendly’s or the regular season? I thought you said you were looking at ways to make the regular season more meaningful when you were asked …

Dallas coach, Colin Clarke added his selections to the All-Star team yesterday. He named Scott Garlick and Simo Valakari from his own Western Conference leading team as well as Frankie Hejduk from the Crew, Chris Albright from LA and Pat Noonan from the Revs.
Also, commissioner Don Garber added DC’s Ghristian Gomez and the Revs Taylor Twellman.
No Freddy Adu which is a shock to me. Also Chicago, San Jose, Colorado and Chivas won’t be represented in the match.
So, the final table of players who’ll be representing MLS at the end of …

Big Whoop. MLS announced the All-Star line-up. Honestly, I just can’t get excited about watching the game. However, I thought it amusing to see which teams got how many starters.
Dallas - 4
NE - 3
RSL - 1
Metro - 1
LA - 1
KC - 1
SJ - 0
DC - 0
Colo - 0
Chi - 0
CDC - 0
C’bus - 0
Wow! OK, so there are 12 teams and there can be only 11 starters. But only half the leagues teams will have a starter on the pitch. The majority of starters are from NE and Dallas which …

Yeah, it’s a boring Friday at the office.
Who the heck is/are Bowling for Soup? Ah, what am I complaining about? The All-Star is a waste of time anyway. I do love the way the Press Release sells the band tough. It makes the what MLS puts out trying to sell an ESPN broadcast of a Chivas-Colorado match sound believable.
You’ve got to love stories like this one from West Virginia. Doesn’t it warm your…errr…you know. It’s gonna take some time, but the sport of soccer will eventually be every …

What is it about the news today that the planned MLS All-Star game against Real Madrid so amusing? Certainly, it could have been a great event for ABC to broadcast. However, I do not think Don Garber and co really thought things through very well. When MLS first announced the match up, it was due to take place in June. With Real Madrid possibly being involved, the date of the match was moved to go up against the ChampionsWorld Series which involved just about every other major team in Europe …

YAWN….
Maybe it’s just me, but for some reason I just couldn’t get excited about any of the games on offer this weekend.
Yeah, ABC had the MLS All-Star Game in DC, but so what? Watching a bunch of guys who, for the most part, have never played on the same team together knock the ball around for an hour and a half. Sorry, but for a “showcase” event, I find it very difficult to care.
Of course, I could switch to Fox Sports World and watch some ChampionsWorld Series matches. But …
