Games Without Frontiers

29 July 2009 No Comment

gamesEnough with the negative stuff I’ve been posting lately.  I not sure why but I was reminded the other day about this show I watched as a kid in England called, “It’s a Knockout”…it’s the Euro counterpart (later rounds) “Jeux Sans Frontieres”.  And if you thought it had anything to do with Peter Gabriel, well, the show was the inspiration behind the song.

Anyway, here’s the idea of the show.  You get towns to compete against each other in a series of competitions.  However, rather than your usual team sports, it was more like Wipeout but with silly costumes.  Oh, and instead of just looking silly on , you are doing these embarrassing games with your neighbors.

Get the idea yet?  Ok, here’s video.

The shows from the British heats to decide the teams who go to Europe were usually not nearly as fun as the Euro shows where, not only where the contestants were no longer abandoning their pride for their town…but for their country.

Honestly, the towns involved usually weren’t the biggest

I don’t think the British guy ever got any water in his tube.

Seriously, this would rock all over American Idol for entertainment value.

C’mon, Hollywood script writers could never come up with something this amusing.

Ok, so it wasn’t always about athletic ability either.

The competition was taken very seriously.

Sadly it seems as much is available on , it’s mostly stuff from after people starting buying VCR’s.

Ok, one last video.

I feel better now. I wonder if it’s possible to buy the old shows?  Anyone want to get a team together?
