An Open Letter to David Beckham

79600057DP046_Los_Angeles_GMr. Spice,

I don’t know if your well paid advisers have told you this or not but, we aren’t buying your bull shit this time around.  You say one thing, yet your actions point to something very different.  Fool me once….actions not words…and several other cliches come to mind.

Here’s the thing, you sell tickets and shirts.  Any club in the world would love the money you bring in from that.  However, as we discovered last season, you are nothing without a great cast around you.  You became frustrated with the lack of talent around you and….well, you played like shit.  But then you got to Milan and were suddenly a superstar again?  How are we, the fans who have been with the team a lot longer than you have, supposed to react to your actions.

You call out for being unprofessional?  Maybe it’s because I only played at an amature level that I’m a bit confused here.  However, it would seem to me that the captain of a team, regardless of the sport, should be aware if their teammates are frustrated.  If the team is performing poorly, shouldn’t the captain of the team be the one who is pulling the team together to get them back on track?  Isn’t that the responsibility of the leader?   What, as captain, did you to to put the team back on the right path?  Oh yeah, you fucked off the Italy, claimed that wasn’t good enough to help you stay in the squad and then wanted to miss half the next season.  Where the hell do you come off being able to call Donovan unprofessional?

Yeah, I was never paid to play soccer, and I sure as hell don’t have people paying me to take my picture or interview me.  So, perhaps I’m unfamiliar with the term professional when applied to playing a sport.  But I just don’t see where your professionalism comes in to play.

So, are you going to prove me wrong?  You seem to thrive on adversity.  I actually hope you do because regardless of all the hype 19 Entertainment have given you, all I want is for LA to win silverware.  The thing is, I don’t recall you ever saying that.  There’s a lot of talk about raising the profile of and the sport over here, but very little talk about actually winning championships with LA.  So, perhaps you have a very different view of what a professional soccer player’s goals should be.

In closing can I just say, Shut the fuck up and play some winning soccer for a change.  Its the least you can do for LA fans who have suffered the since your arrival.

Signed,

An LA fan who just wants his time to play well and win.
