1-1…to the referee!!!

Juninho CelebratesWhen I lived in LA, I’d always remind people that you don’t live for the weather in the Summer, you’re there for the Winter weather. Wearing shorts in January seems a whole world away from where I am now.

This time of year though, there’s an extra flavor of weather…rain. Rain in California isn’t like it is in other places I’ve lived. Ya see, when it rains there, it does so all day. And it’s not just a little shower. It dumps heavy amounts over the course of the day.

The good news is, tomorrow, when the rain has stopped, the air will be crystal clear. All the smog will have been washed away and you’ll be able to see for miles. Unfortunately, other things will be washed away. Hills will give way and wash down the hill. Storm drains will become blocked because of all the other flotsam collected by all the water…and soccer games will wash up in unexpected places. So, how did LA manage to throw away 2 points last night?

Yeah, so I make a dig at the ref above.  I agree that at least one more ‘goal’ should have counted for LA.  However, that wouldn’t have been a problem had not lost in the 3rd minute on that free kick.  He allowed the Revs midfielder to get goal side of him and, well, there was nothing Josh Saunders could do at that point.

After that, LA dominated the match.  However, because NE had the early lead and the weather played in their favor, they were able to just sit back and soak up all the pressure from LA.  Yeah, LA should have had at least one more goal…but they didn’t get it.  They blinked early on while playing on a massive Slip ‘n Slide and paid the price…2 points which should have easily been theirs.

A few other comments on last night:

  • It’s a good thing we had to bail us out last night.
  • I’m disappointed by the & partnership.
  • What little we got to see of last night gave me more confidence in what the team will produce this season.
  • would probably more effective at this point had he stayed in North London training at the “highest level.”
  • “Captain LD” (AKA …love the Galavision commentators, even if I can only understand tiny bits of what they are saying) put in a good match but just seemed to get more and more frustrated…probably due to weather more than anything.
  • and still rock.
  • put in a decent performance but it’s obvious why he’s not a striker.
  • Once upon a time we had and on our goalie roster, does the current keepers remind anyone else of those days?
  • They pitch at the HDC didn’t do a great job of draining.  The middle of the pitch seemed okay but in both of the goal areas, it was pretty bad.

Anyway, the good news is, this is .  All that matters is making the post season so all is not lost.  There is still plenty of time to make up for last night.  Hey, at least LA have figured out how to score…now we just have to hope they quickly figure out how to do so while remaining onside.

Next week, LA travel RSL on an FIFA International Date.  Memo to Mr. Garber, a marquee match-up early in the season on a date which the top players will be gone?  What was the thinking behind that decision?
