Lost the Leader
Sorry folks, so many thing going on this week that I never got to finish my thoughts. The finale is tonight so I’d better post what I have now…and more after everything tonight–well, the post probably won’t be until later this week but you know what I mean.
First off, Jacob doesn’t exist. Think about it. In 1954 some guy comes waltzing into Richard Alpert and the Other’s/Hostile’s camp and said he was from the future and was looking for Jacob. Remember Alpert had a look of puzzlement when Locke asked? He didn’t have a clue what Locke was talking about. However, these people from the future did help them get rid of the bomb, sorta. Oh, and Alpert did get a nifty compass from Locke as well.
Over time, the name Jacob was used but probably never understood. Someone asked Ben at one point why only he can talk to Jacob–it might have been Locke. The whole Jacob thing was very much a “Man behind the curtain” like the Wizard of Oz or, well, Locke did accuse Ben of being the man behind the curtain in the episode with that title.
It makes sense though. Ben–and probably Widmore though we don’t know this–uses the illusion of “Jacob” to convince the island inhabitants of his plans. It seemed to work for a while. However, the way Alpert and Ben are looking at each other while Locke explains what he’s doing leads me to believe they are hiding something.
So, what Locke is saying by “killing Jacob” is proving that he really doesn’t exist. Well, that’s my theory. Not sure about Horace building the cabin or Christian yet but….
After last weeks episode I asked what Sayid was up to…well, he’s back.
I also wondered what would happen if you killed the son you’d never met cuz he hadn’t been born yet. Well, you start reading his notebook. They one you are going to buy in 25 years or so. Just really strange concepts.
Help me with the math though. In 1954, Ellie was 17–her words. In 1977 she would have been 40. She looked a bit young for 40. That would make her 72 now. Anyway, 40 is kinda reaching the end of your baby making years. Was Faraday already born at that point?
I keep thinking back to the Blast Door in the Swan. Are those tunnels, like the one where Alex “met” with Ben or where the bomb has been stored anything to do with what look like tunnels drawn on the map? It looks like there are Dharma tunnels trying to connect with the older tunnels. I’m guessing that’s gonna be coming out eventually.
Ah, but there’s only one season left. Darn. And this season is about to end as well.
Back to the this week’s episode. When did Jack suddenly become blindly trusting? Though now, instead of being solely focused on getting off the island, he now seems to be solely focused on changing the past so the plan never crashes. Why do I think all his efforts will simply lead everyone down the path they were meant to follow. Course correction…right Mrs. Hawking?
Also, when did Kate become the voice of reason? Reminding Jack that his life wasn’t so great prior to the crash. Heck, we’ve pretty much discovered that everyone kinda had a reason to want to ‘get away.’ Will finishing flight 815 make things better?
I have a ton more thoughts but as this has taken me too long to finish (and post) I’m gonna post what I’ve written so far and I’m sure there will be plenty more to discuss after the finale tonight.
Until then,
Namaste
